Welcome to the Tech House Volunteer page. We are a community-based organization located in Newark’s Fairmount neighborhood, operating from a beautifully refurbished 19th-century Victorian home. Our mission is simple: bringing technology education and resources to underserved residents in our community.
Why Volunteer?
In 2020, the state Department of Education reported that approximately 230,000 students were in need of devices and connectivity. At Tech House, we are working tirelessly to close this digital divide, but we need your help. By volunteering, you will have the opportunity to directly impact lives, empowering our community with essential digital skills and tools.
We provide computer literacy training to Newark residents, serve as a professional development center for teachers, and offer hands-on experience for college students pursuing tech education. As a volunteer, you could find yourself mentoring middle and high school students, providing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) training, or helping adults master new digital technologies.
What Can I Do?
Whether you are a technology expert, an educator, a college student, or simply someone passionate about bridging the digital divide, there are numerous ways you can contribute at Tech House:
- Mentorship: Help us guide middle and high school students as they explore the world of STEAM, preparing them for college and the workforce.
- Teacher Training: Support teachers by sharing your expertise and helping them enhance their knowledge in STEAM and other digital technologies.
- Computer Literacy Programs: Assist in teaching basic computer skills and internet literacy to adults in our community.
- Administrative Support: Help us keep Tech House running smoothly by assisting with administrative tasks and event organization.
